Who here doesn't like planning date nights (cough my husband cough)? Well, this blog is for you. I love organizing date nights, surprises, and fun outings—not just for family time but also for kid-free nights!

So, if planning date nights isn't your thing, keep reading—I've got you covered!

brunch

Brunch

Going out for brunch is one of our favorite activities—who doesn't love a warm meal and a hot coffee (or a mimosa!)? One of our go-to spots is OEB Breakfast Co. located at River Landing, which has a stunning view of the South Saskatchewan River. I always order the same thing: the Not So Boring Brioche French Toast—yum! I usually pair it with a latte or the mimosa flight. My husband loves one of their signature breakfast poutines or an eggs benedict. Whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed! After brunch, enjoy a walk along the Meewasin Trails to take in the beautiful views or explore the Remai Modern Art Museum, which features contemporary art and a Picasso gallery, plus a theatre that plays a collection of different movies!

Afternoon Fun

My husband and I are big craft beer fans; we appreciate a good, locally made-cold beer! So, we often find ourselves at a local brewery enjoying a beer, visiting and catching up without interruptions (aka the kids!) or playing cards or a game!  Some of our favourite places are Better Brother Brewing, High Key Brewing, or Shelter Brewing Company, just to name a few! If you want to learn more about our Saskatoon breweries, check out my blog here!

bowling

Early Evening

When my husband and I first started dating, we always went 10-pin bowling with friends—it was always so much fun! Since having kids, we usually go bowling as a family, sticking to 5-pin. So, I decided to switch things up for date night and planned a visit to Stoked Centre. It was a blast! They have plenty of 10-pin lanes, arcade games, go-karting, plus a bar and restaurant. The entire place is glow bowling, with giant TVs showing sports and music pumping, creating a super fun atmosphere. We enjoyed a couple drinks and an appetizer while bowling, which hit the spot! One of the coolest parts is that you can customize your game—try different modes like HORSE, BINGO, and more, adding a little extra excitement to the competition! I'll admit, I lost... and now I've got a week's worth of laundry to do!

food

Dinner Time

For this date night, I wanted a spot with a warm, cozy vibe, so I made reservations at Odd Couple for a delicious meal. As always, it did not disappoint! My husband had never been—he'd only tried my leftovers—so he was excited to finally experience it. Odd Couple, located in the Riversdale district, offers incredible Canadian-Asian cuisine. I always must start with their spring rolls; they're cooked to perfection and delicious! If you're dining with someone, I highly recommend ordering a few dishes to share, so you can try a bit of everything because there's so much good food to taste! We chose the Kung Pao Chicken 2 Ways (one of my favorites) and the Beef Skewers, which were served with rice and were absolutely mouthwatering. We also enjoyed some local beer on tap and a margarita! We were too full for dessert, but I couldn't resist asking the table next to us how theirs was (yes, I'm that person)—they raved about it, calling it one of their all-time favorites, so I'll definitely be trying it next time! Be sure to add Odd Couple to your date night list (and make a reservation); you won't be disappointed!

music

Night on the Town!

After a delicious meal, we headed to Capitol Music Club for some live music. I keep saying the older I get, the more I love live music! There's just something about sitting in a bar, drink in hand, and enjoying talented performers. The Capitol is an excellent spot to catch a show! They regularly feature local talent, as well as bigger acts like Brett Kissel, Big Sugar, and more. The venue has seating and standing areas and a full bar and restaurant. Be sure to check out their upcoming shows and treat yourself to a night of great music!

drink

Night Cap

We ended our date night with a nightcap at Parlor, a classic cocktail bar with a super cool, edgy vibe. It's a bit hidden at the top of St. Tropez Bistro (another great date night spot!). The cocktail menu is packed with creative drinks, and they also offer over 125 whiskeys and a wide selection of wines and beers. I tried a cocktail called Another Castle, and it was delicious and refreshing—I was obsessed! I can't wait to go back for another. Parlor also hosts fun events like karaoke nights, daily specials, and themed house parties. Be sure to follow them on Instagram to stay in the loop!

There you have it—a plan for your next date night. All you have to do is pick a date, arrange for a babysitter (if you have kids), and then enjoy an evening out in Saskatoon! So, what are you waiting for, go start planning!
