Fall has arrived in Saskatoon, and we are well into it! It is one of my favourite seasons in Saskatoon, as it is stunning!

With the kids all back in school and life slowing down (but does it actually?), I love going out to explore Saskatoon and the area this time of year with my family. From walks along the river, exploring pumpkin patches, and visiting museums, there is much to do! Here are some of our top places to check out this Fall!

forestry farm

Forestry Farm

You may not know, but the Saskatoon Forestry Farm & Park  is open all four seasons! One of my favourite times to go is during Fall, as it is not too hot or cold, and it is a great way to spend a beautiful sunny afternoon with the family exploring the zoo, checking out the wolves, bison, dingos and zebras! I also find that the animals seem to be more active when it isn't scorching hot! Note that the bears will go into hibernation, but many of the animals are yearly animals! Also, as of Nov.1st, it is pay by donation. The zoo has a playground and concession and a playground within the larger park. My kids love both playgrounds and enjoy stopping there at the end of our zoo trip!

nachos

Nachos at Amigo's

Okay, hear me out: you are exploring Broadway with the kiddos, doing some shopping and checking out the local shops like Wanuskewin Gift Shop, Prairie Proud,  and the kids start to whine that they are hungry (and let's be honest, we all know it's going to happen!) Luckily, you are on Broadway and have many options like Prairie Sun Brewery or Broadway Café (if you need other restaurant ideas, check out Kid-Approved Eats blog!).

However, one of our favourite places to go is Amigos! It has such a fun vibe and excellent service, and they have a great kid's menu and colouring pages! However, when we go there, we love to get the nachos! We get one adult size with all the fixing and then an order for the kids with just cheese. They have some great local beer on tap that you can enjoy with your nachos!

barn

Rosthern Corn Maze

Take a short 35-minute drive to spend the day out at Rosthern Corn Maze! It is such a fun way to spend the day with the kids! There is much to do out there, and you can spend the day. Your kids can enjoy many activities, such as a climbing wall, a large "bouncy pillow", a tube slide, a corn maze, a train, pedal go-karts, hayrides, and so much more! Our kids also enjoyed the goats, sheep and ducks at the petting zoo! You can pack lunch or purchase snacks and food from the concession. And remember to pick up your pumpkin before you leave; they have a huge barn full of them! There are also many cute opportunities to grab a cute fall photo of your family! Once you are done for the day, check out the Station Arts Centre, grab a coffee, and explore the art before heading back to the city!

game

Wanuskewin

Wanuskewin is an Indigenous cultural site that features walking trails, art installations, and educational programs. In the Fall, the landscape is stunning, with the colours of the changing leaves enhancing the park's natural beauty. Take a family walk along the trails, explore the visitor center, participate in a guided tour or Indigenous Games to learn more about the Indigenous culture. They also have a super cool park that my kids love! If you are hungry or looking for a drink (Muskeg Tea is my favourite), stop by the café! Wanuskewin is one of my favourite places in Saskatoon! Whether you want to take in the trails, attend a workshop or roam around, there is always something to learn and it has such a peaceful feeling when you visit.

car

Western Development Museum

If you have been to Saskatoon, or even if you haven't, you need to include the Western Development Museum (WDM) on your list of places to stop! This interactive museum is perfect for families, offering a unique glimpse into Saskatchewan's history. With engaging exhibits, including vintage cars and a recreated 1910 town, kids and adults alike will be fascinated. The Boom Town Café, located right along the street of Boom Town, is a fantastic place to stop and have a bite to eat; their cinnamon buns are to die for! (and it is reasonable in price) Check out their calendar for any seasonal programs that you can participate in.

sports

Sporting Events

We are a huge sports family and love checking out live sports, and Fall is a great time to take in some action. With the University of Saskatchewan back in session, we attend as many Huskie games as possible! It is affordable, there is good action, and there is a variety of different sports happening. Check out a Football, Basketball, Volleyball, or Soccer game. You can see their schedules here.

Also, the Saskatoon Blades season has kicked off. They are coming off a hot last season and are looking sharp again this year. Now, I must admit, hockey isn't our families' go-to sport; HOWEVER, attending a Blades game or two in the season is a lot of fun, and the atmosphere at the SaskTel Center is so exciting! Blades games are perfect for families looking to watch high caliber hockey (check out our game day guide here.)

fall

These are just some of my family's top things to do in the Fall! We also love walking along the Meewasin Trails; as I mentioned, the colours along the river are tremendous. You can also take a drive down Valley Road and stop at the Strawberry Ranch Corn Maze, pick out a pumpkin at Black Fox, watch the farmers in full harvest mode or spend an afternoon at the Berry Barn (another picturesque place to visit in the Fall.) You can also check out our event page for exciting events happening in the city!

I hope this helps give you some ideas on some fall fun in Saskatoon, and as always, tag us on social media,  about how you will enjoy #Saskatooning!
