Cohen’s Beer Republic

The name says it all: If you’re a beer lover, you’re in luck! Cohen’s boasts 22 craft beers on tap, over 50 in bottles, and a whiskey program to boot. The menu features a variety of upscale comfort food, like Korean Sticky Pork Belly, Watermelon Cucumber Salad, and the classic Canadian Poutine. Try a charcuterie board from the Cure Artisanal Charcuterie — it’s all made at their Riversdale butcher shop using meat from local farmers.

Named for the legendary gangster Morris “Two-Gun” Cohen, the beer hall’s parking lot sits on the site of what was once the Alberta Restaurant, a favourite haunt of Cohen during his criminal heyday. One day as Cohen entered the restaurant, he saw that his friend was being robbed. As legend has it, Cohen knocked the robber to the ground, retrieved the stolen goods, and threw the robber into the street.
