Eagle Creek Birding Tour

Event June 5, 2024
Time 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Situated about 60 minutes from Saskatoon, the dense moist woodlands of the Eagle Hills provides nesting habitat for many species of songbirds. If desired, we can start with a 1 – 2 hour walk along an old level road through some Saskatchewan Wildlife Habitat Lands on top of the Eagle hills. Here we will look and listen for woodpeckers, flycatchers, warblers, sparrows and other songbirds. Some birds of interest often include Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Baltimore Oriole, White-throated Sparrow, Least and Alder Flycatchers. If we are lucky, we might hear or see the rare Connecticut Warbler as well as Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Broad-winged Hawk.

Later we can make frequent stops along a nearby back road through these woods and stop to photograph the tremendous views from the edge of these Eagle Hills.

On our return drive, we will make stops at Eagle Creek Regional Park and also visit a variety of back road bridges over Eagle Creek where we might find Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrasher, Veery, Spotted Towhee, Cliff Swallow, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Spotted Sandpiper and perhaps a Great Blue Heron. A pair of nesting Sandhill Cranes is often seen on this tour.

Join us for this leisurely driving tour. Great for a family outing. Both novice and experienced bird watchers are welcome. A loaner pair of binoculars may be available if requested.
