Curling is back!

Hi everyone! It’s Heather, former high school city curling champion and current curling enthusiast. I’m a former Third, widely considered the most important person on a curling team. To all the skips out there, you know it’s true.

I have the distinct honour of acting as the Vice-Chair of Hosting of the 2021 Tim Hortons Curling Trials coming up here in Saskatoon from November 20 – 28 at SaskTel Centre. We are putting together a week full of fun and excitement, with some amazing curling. Here’s our Tim Hortons Curling Trials event guide to help you navigate the event.

THE TRIALS

The Trials are like a combination of the Scotties and the Brier, with a twist. At the Brier and the Scotties, you’re representing your province to become the Canadian champion. Here at the Trials however, teams competed in multiple events over the last few years to qualify for the chance to become Team Canada. Win the Trials and you go on to represent Canada at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. The stakes are high, and the pressure is on! Especially for Team Dunstone, Saskatchewan’s only representative at the Tim Hortons Curling Trials.

THE PATCH

Anyone who has been to a curling event knows how important the Patch is. The Original 16 Patch is the place to be in between draws. Grab bite to eat, a little to drink, listen to some live music and have a good time! Local talent like The Steadies and DJ The Gaff will keep you dancing all night. THE CITY

To those visiting Saskatoon for the Trials, welcome to the city of celebration! When you aren’t at SaskTel Centre with your eyes glued to the house, there are so many amazing things to see and do. Spend some time wandering through the world’s largest collection of Picasso linocuts at the Remai Modern. Go back in time and visit 1910 Boomtown at the Western Development Museum, where you’ll experience an indoor representation of a typical Saskatchewan town in 1910. Or go WAY back in time with a trip to Wanuskewin, where you’ll learn about over 6,000 years of Indigenous history in the Opimihaw Creek valley.

THE FOOD

If there’s one thing the Trials don’t have, it’s breakfast. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.

OEB is a favourite of mine. Not just because they have delicious breakfast food, but because they have a mimosa flight! Orange, pineapple, grapefruit and mango mimosas are the perfect addition to your breakfast. Pair it with the Cluck Norris sandwich and amazing views of the South Saskatchewan River for a fun way to start the day.

Located in the Sheraton Cavalier hotel, Scarlet has something for everyone. The Mushroom Omelette is droolworthy and the Classic Eggs Benedict are some of the best in the city. They have gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options available to suit every diet.

In the lobby of the Delta Hotels by Marriott Saskatoon Downtown, Aroma recently completed a full renovation, and the space looks amazing. Personal menu favourites of mine are the Open-Faced Breakfast Sandwich and the Saskatoon Berry Pancakes because let’s face it – did you even visit Saskatoon if you didn’t have Saskatoon Berries on something?
