Best Ice Cream Spots in Saskatoon!
For those who don't know me, one of my most FAVOURITE things in the world is ice cream! I love everything about it, all the different flavours, eating it at the beach or by the river, and taking my kids for ice cream. I eat it year-round, and even in the winter when it is -40 degrees, I always have some in my house! But there is something about having it in summer and with the hot weather, and we are fortunate to have some really great ice cream places around the city. I'm here to share some of the top spots!
Fable Ice Cream
Located in Riversdale, Fable Ice Cream is a locally made ice cream shop. They have such delicious flavours like Prairie Berry Lavender, Sunnyside Strawberry, Smores, Pina Colada Sorbet, Punch Buggy (which is for the Punch Buggy Express!), and so much more that are all made in the shop. They also have a variety of vegan flavours, so they can cater to those who still wish to have ice cream! You can also get coffee, milkshakes, tubs of ice cream, ice cream sandwiches and more. It is a great place to stop after an afternoon of swimming at Riversdale Pool. I had Cookies & Cream, and it was very yummy!
Lt Dan's Ice Cream Shack
Lt Dan's Ice Cream Shack is a new ice cream shop in the Brighton area! The kids and I spent an afternoon at Brighton Park (you need to take your kids there; it has 3 different parks, and your kids will love it), and after playing in the hot sun, we decided to check out Dan's! They had a variety of fun flavours like All Canadian Moose, Blast Off, Shark Attack, Campfire Smores and more! They have a cute little sitting area with the cutest backdrop for all your Instagram photos, and the saying isn't wrong: "Ice Cream Solves Everything." (I'm a firm believer in this 😉). After the ice cream, we went and checked out The Stoked Centre. Due to time, we couldn't do any of the activities but will be back there after summer. It is so cool with a bowling alley, arcade, go-karting and a restaurant!
Beppi's Gelato
Beppi's Gelato is a must-stop visit in the beautiful neighbourhood of Broadway! It is the cutest little shop and serves homemade Gelato. Gelato is an Italian-inspired ice cream, and when I lived in Europe, I indulged in a lot of it. I was so excited when Beppi's opened so I could have that experience of Italian ice cream again! They use local seasonal ingredients and have made over 150 flavours since opening in 2019! I enjoyed a Mango Gelato, and oh my gosh, it was SO refreshing (and it was 30 degrees out.) Their summer special is The Broadway, honouring all the fantastic coffee shops in the Broadway neighbourhood. While there, you can also enjoy an espresso or different drinks, different baking treats and Italian grocery items. Be sure to stop next time you wander around Broadway; you won't be disappointed.
The Sugar Shack
Located at River Landing, The Sugar Shack has some of the funniest ice cream treats I've ever seen. They also have Dole Whip, one of my new favourite things; it is so refreshing on those hot days (the flavours rotate!) The Sugar Shack also offers a different weekly weekend feature, and I've been dying to try one! The special that week was the Cantaloupe Bowl. It is exactly what it sounds like; it was a cantaloupe cut in half, filled with Lime & Lemon Dole Whip topped with little candy watermelons- YUMMY! Wow, it was delicious (a bit messy, have extra napkins) but so good. They also offer regular ice cream, ice cream nachos (next on the list), Dole Whip Milk Shakes, and different foods for lunch or supper. It is a perfect place to stop after playing at the spray park or walking along the Meewasin Valley Trail!
Bus Stop Refreshments
The iconic "Ice Cream Bus" in the heart of Downtown Saskatoon it is an iconic stop for ice cream! Across from the beautiful Delta Bessborough, The Bus Stop Refreshments is an old double-decker red bus and is a must-stop visit in Saskatoon. It has been around since I was a kid, and I remember visiting Saskatoon and asking to go to the Ice Cream Bus (see, I've been a lifelong lover of ice cream!) Enjoy some of the classic flavours of ice cream, like Mint Chip, Bubble Gum, Peanut Butter Cup, and more. They also serve frozen yogurt, milkshakes, popcorn and lemonade. They also have Hot Dogs where you can choose four toppings like pickles, sauerkraut, salsa, onions and more! If you are lucky, you might get to enjoy a street performer while eating your ice cream!
There are so many other great spots, like Homestead Ice Cream, Chardon Ice Cream, Smoove Ice Cream Bar, Crunchy Dog, and Daily Scoop, to name a few. If you feel like taking a drive, Lil Bean Ice Cream in Rosthern is delicious, and you could stop in at Station Arts Centre Co-operative or drive out to Warman to Twin Peaks Creamery, where they make their ice cream right on the farm, and you can see some animals or play lawn games! Those are some of my favourite spots. Where are you going to stop this summer?
