A Fall Day Itinerary in Saskatoon!
Whether you're planning to stay for a weekend, spending a cozy afternoon, or just passing through for the day, this Fall Itinerary has everything you need to make the most of your time have the best fall experience in Saskatoon.
Breakfast with a View
Start your day off with breakfast at OEB Breakfast Co. right in the heart of Saskatoon. Located in the Riverlanding area, OEB is the perfect place to get a delicious meal to start your day in Saskatoon. Enjoy a coffee while being mesmerized by the fall colours along the South Saskatchewan River. The menu has a variety of options, with sweet and savoury items! My favourite dish is the Banana Cream Pie French Toast (with a side of bacon) or the Not So Boring Brioche French Toast, YUM! A lot of people also enjoy breakfast poutines as well. Don’t forget to enjoy the mimosa flight with your meal!
Walk Along Meewasin
As I mentioned, OEB Breakfast Co. is located right along the river, so once you are done with a delicious breakfast, step outside and, feel the crisp air on your face, and head down to the Meewasin Valley Trail. The Meewasin Trail is located throughout Saskatoon and extends beyond the city borders, totaling over 105 kilometres along the South Saskatchewan River. No matter what season, adding a walk along the Meewasin is a must; however, fall is something pretty spectacular with the seasons changing. Did you know Meewasin means Beautiful Cree? (If you don't feel like walking, hop on an e-scooter—be advised that e-scooter rentals end at the end of October/early November.)
Shop Along Broadway
While heading along the Meewasin, be sure to cross the bridge over to Broadway and take another moment to stop halfway across the bridge to enjoy the views from another angle! Once you reach Broadway, you will be welcomed by many local shops, restaurants and coffee shops. Be sure to spend some time shopping and checking out the local shops like Soul Paper, which has everything for your writing and crafting needs and the Wanuskewin Gift Shop, a locally owned Indigenous shop with curated Indigenous art, clothing, jewelry, and so much more (and in their brand-new space!)
Warm up with a Bowl of Soup
Located about 5 minutes off Broadway, you will find a cute hidden gem, D’Lish by Tish, a local cozy cafe that will warm you up! They offer 3 daily homemade soups that are some of the best soups I’ve ever had. Soups from Dill Pickle, Bacon Cheeseburger, to Broccoli Cheddar and Beet Borscht, it will leave you satisfied, and trust me when I say, get the Not Your Mama’s Grilled Cheese with your soup, it is the perfect (and most delicious) pairing to your soup. Save room for dessert (or take some to go for later) because they also have daily cakes and cheesecakes that are to die for! Find all their daily soups and desserts on their Instagram!
An Afternoon at Black Fox Farm & Distillery
After warming up with a nice bowl of soup, head out to Black Fox Farm & Distillery. Located about 10 minutes outside of Saskatoon, Black Fox Farm and Distillery is a great way to spend the afternoon! Book yourself a distillery tour, sample some of their gin or whisky with a tasting experience or enjoy an afternoon in the pumpkin patch, finding yourself the perfect pumpkin! Black Fox makes you feel right at home when you are visiting, and you won’t be disappointed with your visit! Be sure to book your experience or check their events out ahead of time here.
Dinner at Primal
I don’t know about you, but once the weather starts to cool off, I seem to find myself looking for warm hearty comfort food, and that is exactly what you will get at Primal! Located in Riversdale area, Primal combines rustic Italian cuisine with local ingredients and is known for their in house, homemade pasta. Primal offers a cozy, warm and intimate atmosphere, and is the perfect place to enjoy a delicious dinner in Saskatoon.
Evening at Pumpkins After Dark
After a day of walking, eating, shopping, and local experiences, be sure to end the night off at Pumpkin After Dark. This new event in Saskatoon is one of a kind! With over 10,000 pumpkins, it is the perfect event to get you into the Halloween spirit! It takes place at Prairieland Park (and is outdoors, so dress for the weather) and my tip is to wait until it is fully dark to get the real experience. For those who are wanting the perfect cute Instagram spot, this one is for you! They also have a couple of food trucks, so grab a hot chocolate or coffee to keep you warm while you walk around and enjoy all the pumpkins!
I hope this one day itinerary helps you plan the perfect fall day! It is such a short-lived season but is one of the most beautiful (they really all are!) To check out events happening, be sure to check out our website!
